Later, the president laid a wreath, “on behalf of the people of Namibia,” in front of the monument that holds the ashes of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who founded close ties of friendship between the two nations and with Sam Nujoma, the historic leader of the sub-Saharan nation.

Writing in the visitors’ book in the cemetery, Mbumba described the moment as very emotional for him and his family, and expressed his wish that the spirit of the Cuban heroes continues to inspire future generations to foster love between the two peoples and countries.

At the end of his official visit to Cuba, the president was seen off on the runway of the Antonio Maceo International Airport by the Santiago de Cuba Vice Governor Waldis González Peinado.

During his stay in Cuba, Nangolo Mbumba was awarded the José Martí Order, the highest decoration granted by the Cuban State, and held official talks with President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
