Cuba’s political will and commitment to move forward underscored

Havana, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) National People's Power Assembly (Parliament) President Esteban Lazo on Wednesday underscored the political will and commitment of the Revolution to transform the complex situation that the country is going through.

When inaugurating the 4th Ordinary Session of Parliament, in its 10th Legislature, Lazo noted that measures and various solutions aimed at alleviating the people’s situation are reviewed daily.

Lazo, who is also the president of the Council of State, referred to the intensification of the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the global inflationary crisis that affects the prices of Cuban products.

In addition to this, there are the consequences of two hurricanes, the total disconnection of the National Power System on three occasions, two earthquakes, and other natural and climatic events.

The parliamentary leader explained that although part of the government’s program to correct distortions in the economy has been implemented and even in some aspects, there has been progress, the expected impacts have not yet been achieved, he pointed out.

He considered it imperative to achieve a stronger and more robust economy “in the conditions that we want to guarantee the defense of the gains of our Revolution that we all have the duty to defend together and for all.”

That is why, he said, it is necessary to tell all institutions, stockholders, the economy and the population to support and participate in the search for solutions, to set correct goals and objectives.

Lazo added that “today more than ever it is essential to explain the alternatives, the real options that we have to move forward, in order to avoid misinterpretations and so that our citizens can visualize the possible solutions to their dissatisfactions.”

The Parliament president called to prioritize finding ways and means to share the good work experiences that are appreciated throughout the country and “show that we can do it if we all dedicate ourselves to creative work.”

He stressed that it is the time to ensure that all institutions, authorities and the people “are aware of the need to work better and more united, with the same goal and way of doing things.”

During the opening session of the National Assembly, a minute of silence was observed in posthumous tribute to the lawmakers General Ramón Espinosa and jurist Judith Legón.

In addition, the athletes Mijaín López, Omara Durand and other Olympic and Paralympic champions, who are also legislators, were acknowledged.

The Parliamentpresident shared with the lawmakers the agenda of this session, which will include an update on the implementation of the Action Plan of the Comprehensive Care Policy for Children, Adolescents and Youth.
