Cuban Economy will prioritize Health System in 2025

Havana, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Minister of Economy and Planning, Joaquín Alonso, on Wednesday announced that bolstering up the National Health System will be a budgetary priority in 2025.

Judging by his statements at the opening of the fourth ordinary session of the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament), the financial support for the local healthcare network will exceed the 2024 government allocations.

A share of expenses will benefit the Basic List of Medicines to which the public usually have access to, said the minister when reading the report on economic performance for 2024 and unveiling the 2025 prospects.

He mentioned plans for 2025, envisaging resources for “the implementation of the Demographic Dynamics policy”, to begin on January 1st.

An additional priority will be budget allocations for monetary and service benefits, plus care programs for vulnerable individuals and families, Alonso indicated, later reiterating that the country’s GDP is scheduled to grow by one percent next year.

This projection, he argued, is based on the predicted recovery of tourism and the increase in exports, the revitalization of agricultural and industrial yields and the stabilization of the electrical power grid.

Alonso hailed efforts focused on “the reduction of the fiscal deficit, withdrawing Cuban pesos from circulation, the reactivation of the exchange market and the transformation of the mechanism for management and control of liquidity in foreign currency.”

On the other hand, he reported that the government is planning a target of “average salary of six thousand 276 pesos is planned,” which considers the “continuity of salary measures planned to be applied to the Education, Health and National Electric Grid sectors.”

He noted that regardless of the persistence of the “complex scenario” currently gripping the Cuban economy, progress can be made “with our own efforts and available resources and with the reserves that we have.”
