The shipment, which consists of medicines and other supplies, weighs 18 tons and was placed in a 40-cubic-foot container.
It is scheduled to leave the Valencian port on December 23 bound for the port of El Mariel, and will go to the Quisicuaba socio-community project in Havana, the Cubainformación portal noted.
Quisicuaba will be in charge of its distribution, together with other Cuban institutions such as the Nicolás Guillén Foundation and the “Hermanos Ameijeiras” Clinical Surgical Hospital in Havana, to serve thousands of people, especially senior citizens and those at risk of social exclusion, from the Cuban capital and other municipalities.
Volunteer work to load the container in Bétera (Valencia) brought together Cuba solidarity activists from Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid, El Prat del Llobregat, Valencia and other regions, as well as Cuban residents here, in addition to brigade members who visited Cuba last summer and others who hope to do so next April on a trip of teachers and union members.
The materials were donated by different institutions and towns over several months, including Euskadi Cuba, the Ernesto Guevara Association of Torrejón de Ardoz, Camilo Cienfuegos of Dénia, Amistad con Cuba Miguel Hernández of Alicante, the town of Bétera, the solidarity group Corazón Exprés de la Marina Baixa, the Intersindical Solidària and the Partit Comunista del País Valencià, and the Valencian association itself.
The contents consist of ultrasound equipment, stretchers, medical supplies, wheelchairs, walkers, adult diapers, seeds and pressure cookers, among other materials.
On this occasion, the freight has been financed by the José Mart’s Friendship Association of Valencia through a solidarity campaign, launched together with the rest of the entities of the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, after two hurricanes hit Cuba recently.
During the 17th State Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, held in Malaga (October) and the 19th European Meeting held in Paris (November), an urgent call was made to increase material cooperation with Cuba.
