India, China to continue talks on border issue

New Delhi, Dec 17 (Prensa Latina) India and China will continue talks on the border issue, which will be beneficial to restoring bilateral ties, the Indian Foreign Ministry said.

The source said in a brief statement that National Security Advisor Arjit Doval and his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, will discuss the management of peace and tranquility in the border areas, at the twenty-third meeting of special representatives. Both officials will also explore a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable solution to that problem.

The meeting in Beijing follows the provisions made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping during their bilateral talks in Kazan, Russia, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit last October.

The dignitaries met after the announcement of the agreement reached between the two countries to patrol the common border as an important step to restore bilateral relations.

During his recent speeches in the Indian Parliament, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar considered that there is progress in bilateral relations in different areas, and declared that both governments are clear about the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas as a prerequisite for the development of ties.

The Minister of External Affairs pointed out that the withdrawal of troops in the border territories was fulfilled through a step-by-step process established in the agreement of October 21st.
