Early Tuesday reports from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) indicated that 1320 tremors have occurred so far, with 174 of them perceived by the population.
The bulk magnitude of aftershocks ranged from 2.5 to five, leaving the 5.8 earthquake of December 8 at 9:50 pm as the strongest so far.
Experts point out that an aftershock equal to or greater than 5.8 may occur, therefore the state of alert is maintained to deal with any eventualities.
In an update on the damages left by the tremors in the municipality of La Unión Sur, the director of Civil Protection, Luis Amaya, said the day before that at least 80 houses were destroyed by quakes, and 109 have suffered slight damages.
