The spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, urged the bloc to stop its baseless attacks against China, rejected the unilateral sanctions imposed without basis in international law and without the authorization of the UN Security Council, and highlighted Beijing’s strong disapproval of these actions.

Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Lin reiterated China’s constant position of promoting dialogue and peace without supplying weapons to any of the parties involved. In addition, he assured that China implemented regulations on the export of dual-use technology and maintains rigorous control over drone exports, with measures that he considers the strictest in the world.

The spokesman stressed that commercial cooperation between Chinese and Russian companies must be respected and should not be affected by the sanctions. He recalled that many countries, including those in Europe and North America, maintain trade relations with Moscow, so he urged the EU to avoid applying double standards in this area.

Lin Jian also warned that Beijing will take the necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its companies.

The Council of the European Union announced yesterday a new round of sanctions against Moscow, seeking to “weaken Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine.” The measures include the imposition of travel bans and asset freezes on Chinese companies.

This occurs amid a scenario of trade tensions between the bloc and Beijing, due to the tariffs that the EU decided to apply on electric vehicles imported from China.
