Russia: declassified documents on probes launched to Venus

Moscow, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) The Russian space agency Roscosmos informed today that it has declassified documents on the Vega interplanetary probes launched to Venus in December 1984.

According to the Roscosmos communication published Monday on the Lenta.Ru social page, the documents refer to the Proton-K rocket that carried the Vega-1 and Vega-2 probes into space and disclose the characteristics of the devices and the tasks they were to perform.

The note points out that the flight of Vega-1 lasted 178 days and that of Vega-2, 176 days. The project was a triumph of national science and international cooperation in space exploration.

At that time, Soviet researchers achieved numerous scientific and technological breakthroughs.

The last contact with Vega-1 was made on January 30, 1987, and with Vega-2 on March 24, 1987.
