Mexico’s Sheimbaun confirms meeting with Colombia’s Petro

Mexico City, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed in her usual press conference Monday that during the day she will be meeting her Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro.

“We are going to meet in a little while and I believe that tomorrow we will report what the meeting was about’, said the president responding to a question from reporters.

Mexico’s Foreign Affairs Ministry published on X Sunday that Petro was welcome on Sunday at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente.

Also on X, the Colombian Presidency pointed out that the Petro’s visit is aimed at moving forward on a bilateral agenda with Sheinbaum.

‘We continue to strengthen relations between Colombia and Mexico’, said the presidency.

Against the backdrop of the Group of 20 Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Petro met with Sheimbaun last November 18.

The Colombian Foreign Minister, Luis Gilberto Murillo, recalled that back then bilateral ties were strengthened on issues related to investment and trade, infrastructure, migration and the fight against transnational crime. On October 1, Petro attended Sheimbaun’s presidential inauguration in Mexico.
