YouTube Brazil asked to remove fake videos about Lula’s health

Brasilia, Dec 14 (Prensa Latina) The Attorney General's Office (AGU) asked YouTube Brazil to remove, within 24 hours, fake videos about President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's health, it was learned on Saturday.

Lula underwent three medical procedures this week to treat an intracranial hemorrhage: emergency surgery on Tuesday, a complementation of the operation and the removal of a drain in his head on Thursday.

Some content cited by the AGU even suggested the president’s president. In response to the R7 portal, YouTube Brazil reported that it would not comment on the AGU’s request, which also demanded that if the content is not removed from the air, the company at least must indicate the true information in the publications, also within 24 hours.

The AGU described the publications as disinformation and said that “they present statements about facts that do not match reality, the purpose of which is to deceive the public about the true health condition of the President of the Republic.”

In addition to being misleading and fraudulent, the publications are considered an illegal act, since they violate the right to information and go beyond the limits of freedom of expression, characterizing themselves as an evident abuse of rights, the organization noted.

The organization also defended “reliable, consistent, clear and precise information” to guarantee the protection of the “integrity of information” in the “digital ecosystem.”

In addition, the AGU highlighted that the publications violate the terms of use of YouTube Brazil.
