President Díaz-Canel meets vice chair of Chinese Military Commision

Havana, Dec 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, on Friday met with Colonel General He Weidong, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and vice president of that country’s Central Military Commission (CMC).

Díaz-Canel disclosed on his X account that he and the Chinese guest had talked about the excellent relations between both parties, governments, peoples and military institutions.

The meeting was hosted at the Palace of the Revolution, headquarters of the executive, where the Cuban president asserted that it had been a great pleasure “welcoming you and the large military delegation accompanying you.”

The Cuban president told He Weidong that his arrival in Havana has a very high significance, as it entails the continuity in relations, which are at an excellent level, he considered.

He also stressed that in both nations the armed forces are an important bulwark in building socialism, which is why the high-level visit of the People’s Liberation Army of China is an honor, according to the Cuban Presidency website.

The head of state acknowledged China’s support and solidarity, in the midst of complex circumstances deriving from the US blockade, which has intensified in recent years.

This help is “extraordinary and special,” said Díaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), as he voiced his desire to strengthen joint cooperation for the benefit of the two countries.

Díaz-Canel hailed China’s achievements in various areas, which provide experiences for socialist construction in Cuba, according to local characteristics, he said.

He also highlighted “the relationship on equal footing” that China maintains with countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and in particular with Cuba, and congratulated President Xi Jinping for his fundamental role as part of the BRICS.

Xi’s proposals in BRICS are “very significant global initiatives, based on a humanistic and emancipatory foundation,” said Díaz-Canel.

In turn, Colonel General He conveyed to Díaz-Canel a cordial greeting from Xi Jinping, and acknowledged the way in which Cuba’s political and governmental leadership has adhered to a path of development, in accordance with its own national conditions.

Cuba, said the vice president of the Chinese CMC, is building a prosperous and sustainable socialism, and has achieved a new development in fostering the cause of the Party and the State.

The meeting was attended by the member of the Political Bureau of the PCC and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Army Corps General, Alvaro López, and the Chinese ambassador in Cuba, Hua Xin.
