Cartoonist Javier Cubero, coordinator of the event, told Prensa Latina exclusively that 500 works were received from creators from Iran, Russia, China, Ukraine, Turkey, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Romania, Indonesia, Mexico, Croatia and Cuba, among other nations.
He indicated that 133 works are among the finalists and they will be part of the international exhibition scheduled to open on December 20 at 10 a.m., local time, at the gallery of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) in this province.
Cubero explained that in this contest organized by UNEAC and the Vanguardia newspaper, participants compete in the categories of general humor and erotic humor, with three prizes per category, to celebrations for the 56th anniversary of the local humor supplement Melaíto.
Each author competes with two pieces in each category, and if awarded they will receive a cash prize, accompanied by a certificate of accreditation and a work of art by a recognized Cuban artist.
Cubero noted that on December 19, the personal exhibition “El Humor No Se Puede Apagar” (Humor Cannot Be Put Out), by cartoonist Félix Adalberto Linares (Linares), will be inaugurated at the Agesta Forum of UNEAC, in Santa Clara.
