Mijaín was voted by Cuatro F, Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), El Periódico de Panamá, Cubadebate, Girón, Radio Llanura de Colón, and Radio Rebelde.
Up to now, Mijaín has received 31 votes, far ahead of his follower, Salvadoran tennis player Marcelo Arévalo, with two nominations so far, while Cuban Paralympic sprinter Omara Durand dominates with 15 nominations among the women.
Durand, three-time champion in Paris 2024, added four other votes on the day, while Brazilian judoka Beatriz Souza (Cuatro F), Dominican sprinter Mairileidy Paulino (VTV) and Panamanian boxer Atheyna Bylon (El Periódico…) added one vote each.
In the team’s category, four of these media outlets voted for the Argentine men’s soccer team, two for the Cuban Baseball5 team, while VTV gave its vote to the Tiburones de la Guaira team, which was crowned champion of the Caribbean Series for the first time in its history, in addition to winning the Venezuelan baseball title after 35 years without winning it.
By teams, the Argentine men’s soccer team remains at the top of the vote (15), followed by the Cuban Baseball5 team (12) and the Brazilian women’s beach volleyball team (2).
It is worth remembering that the voting period will be open until December 23, and the day after, the results will be announced at a press conference.
All media outlets, in all its forms – radio, television, print media, agencies, digital portals – may send their selections to the email address deportes@prensa-latina.cu, from where the general vote will be compiled.
All media taking part in the Prensa Latina Sports Survey will vote on equal terms and may choose any athlete from Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Annual Sports Survey of Prensa Latina was launched in 1964, when Cuban sprinter Enrique Figuerola was the first winner, and since 1980 it was decided to include the category of Best Team of the Year, while since 1988 men and women began to compete separately.
