Havana Cinema Festival grants awards

Havana, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) The Coral Awards in their several categories and the Main Prize of the 45th Havana International New Latin American Cinema Festival will be granted at the emblematic Charles Chaplin movie theater in this capital on Friday.

The Collateral Awards of the Festival, which opened on December 5 and will conclude screenings on Sunday, will be announced at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba.

More than 250 of 2,017 films received from 42 countries for the competition were screened during these days, relevant lectures were offered, and filmmakers, actors, and producers met.

Among the event’s attractions was the screening at Yara movie theater in downtown Havana, in a world debut, of the first two episodes of Netflix’s version of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s renowned novel “One Hundred Years of Solitude.”

Two well-received panel discussions were “How to Sell Your Film to Streaming Platforms” and “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunity or Threat?” featuring Francisco Ramos, Vice President of Latin America and the Caribbean Content at Netflix, and Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, Executive Director of SAG-AFTRA, among others.

Another significant moment was the tribute to cartoonist and filmmaker Juan Padron, winner of the National Film Award, with the launch of the book “De Historietas y Animaciones: La vida de Juan Padron” (Comic Strips and Animation in Juan Padron’s Life) by Aramis Acosta, a chronological and critical review of his work.
