European Parliament leader sees Spain as crucial in the face of Trump

Madrid, Nov 12 (Prensa Latina) The president of the European Parliament (EP), Roberta Metsola, today valued Spain's role in the future of the continental bloc in face of the return of Donald Trump. Metsola, who came to Madrid to collect the Forum Europa award for her political career, considered that the Iberian country will be crucial in the consolidation of a more powerful and influential community scheme. 'With its unique links throughout the Mediterranean and along the Atlantic, Spain will be key to building a Europe that can speak to the world, a Europe that can lead in a new world,' said the Maltese parliamentarian.

In her speech on the occasion of the award received by the New Economy Forum, she admitted that with Trump’s second term at the head of the White House it is logical to think that the United States is pursuing its own interests.

But let me be clear about one thing: America First will never work if it means ‘America Only,’ said the leader of the European People’s Party.

She considered that a Europe of opportunities is needed, one that can keep its promises for generations and in this line indicated that Spain can contribute a lot to turn it into a global player.

The head of the European Parliament said that it is necessary to ‘deepen the single market, which is fragmented, especially in sectors such as energy and finance.’

Regarding one of the most pressing problems in the Old Continent, Metsola stressed that with the new Migration and Asylum Pact, “our message is clear: this is a European challenge, and we will face it together.”
