Cuba and China formalize renewable energy investment project

Havana, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and China exchanged signatures to formalize a renewable energy investment project that includes the installation of seven five-megawatt photovoltaic parks in six Cuban provinces.

The Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Hua Xin, and the first vice minister of foreign trade and investment, Carlos Luis Jorge, signed the agreement at a ceremony held in the capital.

At the event, Jorge thanked China for its support to Cuba “at a special time (due to Cuba’s complex economic situation) demonstrating solidarity, brotherhood, and support of the Chinese government and people for Cuban economic and social development,” he said.

Hua highlighted the characteristics of bilateral relations, which he said are an example of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual assistance between developing socialist countries. The ambassador expressed hope that with this project China “can contribute to strengthening Cuban efforts in guaranteeing energy security and promoting the transition” in this area.

Based on the agreements, the components for the assembling are expected to arrive by sea within seven months.

According to Cuban energy sector authorities. The future operation of the photovoltaic parks will represent an annual saving of 18 thousand tons of fuel for Cuba, equivalent to seven million dollars,
