Communist Party of Cuba debates 2025 Economic Plan

Havana, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) on Friday analyzed proposals for the 2025 Economic Plan and Budget, on the last day of the 9th plenary session of that political organization.

At the party meeting, which began on Thursday, the Government’s projections to correct distortions and boost the economy are being assessed, as well as the actions to confront deviations and negative trends that affect society.

Regarding the progress being made in the Government’s projections, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero on Thursday expressed “dissatisfaction with not achieving the necessary results, despite all the actions taken.”

When presenting a report on this process, Marrero stressed that there are many reserves and capacities to be developed in order to achieve the plans and actions.

However, he pointed out that more coordination, dynamism, resolution and objectivity are required in the construction of models, identification of risks, consequences and measures to mitigate the negative impacts on the people.

The head of Government recalled that in 2024, a series of situations had a negative impact on the materialization of the Government’s Projections; however, a set of distortions could be identified and contained and their consequences were reduced, he added.

Marrero explained that progress was made in controlling the large imbalances in budgetary, fiscal and financial matters, although he acknowledged that the expected impacts were not achieved.

In 2025, Marrero noted that priorities would be directed to political-ideological work, consolidating the defense of the country, internal order and the fight against crime, and the recovery of the power system, in addition to the implementation of a new mechanism to allocate foreign currencies.

The prime minister pointed out that work would also be done on closed financing schemes for the export sector, and the reorganization of the foreign exchange market, the improvement of the socialist state enterprise and budgeted units, the management and organization of the participation of the non-state sector in the economic and social life of the country, among other matters.
