“The leaders of both countries exchanged views on the current situation in Syria and around Ukraine and discussed the development of Russian-Uzbek relations focusing on the agreements reached during Putin’s visit to Uzbekistan last May,” the statement said.

On Sunday, December 8, the Syrian armed opposition forces and the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (previously called the al Nusra Front) took the Syrian capital and proclaimed the overthrow of President Bashar Assad, thus crowning their offensive launched on November 27 from the northwest of the country.

Many nations expressed concern over the developments in Syria, urging all parties to ensure the security, integrity and sovereignty of the country, as well as to initiate a national dialogue with the participation of all sectors of Syrian society.
