Ethiopian President Calls to Strengthen Efforts Against Corruption

Addis Ababa, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopian President Taye Atske-Selassie today called for intensifying efforts to fight corruption in Ethiopia, considered an obstacle to sustaining development and achieving poverty reduction initiatives.

Speaking at the event for the 21st International Anti-Corruption Day held at the Adwa Victory Memorial, Selassie emphasized the need to address the problem through institutional frameworks, while recognizing the complex nature of this scourge in the African country.

In this regard, he said collective action is required to combat these practices that undermine the national effort to get out of poverty.

He also advocated for a youth-centered system to make the nation’s aspirations a reality, as well as for educational institutions to offer ethical and moral education as part of the fight against corruption.

The event brought together high-ranking government officials, including the Chairman of the House of People’s Representatives (Parliament) Standing Committee on Democratic Affairs, Ewnetu Alene, the Commissioner of the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Samuel Urqato, among other guests.

Every December 9th, the International Anti-Corruption Day is commemorated, a date established by the United Nations in reference to the adoption of the Convention against this scourge.
