Cuba ratifies social inclusion a priority, human rights a main issue

Havana, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) Broad social inclusion, respect for women's rights, and the rejection of racism and other discriminatory practices reportedly marked the debates in Cuba on International Human Rights Day.

In this context, the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) defended on Tuesday its guarantees for human rights in the Caribbean nation for this population sector. Protecting, respecting, and guaranteeing women’s human rights is a priority for this organization.

FMC General Secretary Teresa Amarelle Boue made these remarks on Tuesday during a debate with some members who assessed how to enforce the opportunities and guarantees enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic.

They advocated for promoting policies and programs for the advancement of women in Cuban society that reject any form of violence and ensure equity and social justice with access to health and education.

The Cuban women acknowledged decision-making progress, respect for their sexual and reproductive rights, and work for a fairer, inclusive society that defends peace and human dignity.

The University of Havana, in turn, held a panel discussion on the social inclusion of the members of the National Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ANCI), the National Association of Deaf People (ANSOC), the National Association of People with Physical and Motor Limitations (ACLIFIM), and the National Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities (ACPDI).

The event, attended by representatives of the United Nations System agencies in Cuba, addressed social inclusion, accessibility, and public policies.

Cuban civil society celebrated International Human Rights Day with advances in the field, 76 years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
