In a statement published in his X account, the president assured that after more than two months of blackouts, his government has done everything necessary so that “this will be the last energy crisis to hit Ecuador in this way”, regardless of the weather conditions.
According to the ruler, in the coming days a definitive solution to the energy crisis will be given, problems for which he blamed climate change and the management of previous administrations.
He pointed out that the decision to put an end to the power interruptions is based on the recovery of the installed thermal and hydroelectric generation capacity, which for 10 years was irresponsibly neglected.
To this he added the purchase of electricity from Colombia, the improvement of weather conditions, and the acquisition of new forms of generation, including the Turkish floating power plant which generates 100 megawatts (MW) and between December and January 501 MW more will be added.
Since September 23 of this year, Ecuador has been facing prolonged power outages that have reached up to 14 hours a day in the midst of the drought and questions to the Government for the lack of timely measures to address the situation.
