Ortega urged the powers that launch atomic bombs to promote peace. “In the end, history has shown that, no matter how powerful you are, in the end, victory belongs to the people,” stressed the leader, who recalled the experience of Vietnam and the young Americans who died in the conflict. “In the end, Vietnam managed to expel the American troops and we will not forget the image in the United States embassy when the helicopters were coming down to take away the personnel (…) that is, a humiliation for a power like the United States,” he recalled.
The ruler said that this happens because Washington cares little that American youth will give their lives for causes that are not fair, nor do they bring benefits to the American people, but, on the contrary, they bring pain to the people they invade.
Ortega spoke of the political situation in Syria and said that in the face of these events, Nicaragua is skeptical. “Because they are there, (the extremists) had not finished entering when the Israeli government began to take Syrian territories, and to make sure they get them out, they also begin to bomb, and the US air force also began to bomb where these groups that they call terrorists were, but were armed by one of these leaders (Abu Mohamed al-Jolani), who entered triumphantly,” he said.
The president recalled that the United States government offered a reward of 10 million dollars for whoever would deliver al-Jolani dead or alive. “And already announcing that everything that is the most radical fundamentalist religion is imposed in Syria, but there are other groups that think otherwise, that is, that is a country that is torn apart. There is only a miracle there, but even being skeptical, we join the calls for Peace that many peoples and organizations in the world have made,” he said.
According to Ortega, in Syria, there is an imposed war to take over the country, which is located in a strategic region. “God must want peace to come to Syria, but unfortunately the diabolical attitude of those who continue to fight over lands that belong to other peoples weighs more,” he emphasized.
