Professor Luis de León, coordinator of that chair, said that the award will be announced every December 10 on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.
Its delivery will take place every January 28, he explained, regarding the birth anniversary of the intellectual and revolutionary, National Hero of Cuba.
De León said the award goes to teachers, university students, intellectuals, and researchers.
In a document, he stated that Latin America and the world urgently need major movements and messages that will put an end to wars and seek world peace.
“The Latin American region is on the path of war and is being hit by its effects, while the United States, Canada, France, and other powers have their eyes set on Latin America and the Caribbean, aiming above all at Venezuela,” he said. Therefore, it is a propitious way to honor the Cuban Apostle with the presentation of a peace prize,” he said.
