The texts, selected by the intellectuals Luis Morlote, president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), and Elier Ramírez, doctor in Historical Sciences, cover different meetings of Fidel Castro with Cuban writers, creators and art instructors and his reflections on their work within society.
According to Abel Prieto, a book like this represents an essential volume to understand the dimension of Fidel Castro’s thinking about culture, because he was always convinced of the ability of art to bring out the best in human beings.
Elier Ramírez, in turn, said that compiling texts by the leader of the Cuban Revolution always represents a challenge, a learning experience and a commitment to the new generations, who need to study a work marked by love for the homeland and the will to overcome any difficulty with intelligence.
The launch of the book, printed by the Ocean Sur publishing house, was attended by the highest authorities of the Communist Party and the Government in Villa Clara, who shared with those present a group of anecdotes and reflections on Fidel Castro’s ties to culture.
The meeting was moderated by José Antonio Fulgueiras, writer, José Martí National Journalism Award winner and Prensa Latina correspondent, who gave Abel Prieto his book “Y en Eso Llegó Fidel,” a valuable material that contains anecdotes and stories from various personalities about their meetings with the leader of the Cuban Revolution.
