Bahamas holds firm on U.S. immigration plans

Nassau, Dec 10 (Prensa Latina) The Bahamas maintained its position on the immigration plans of the United States, denying the possibility that the territory will be the final destination of those deported from the northern nation.

The government rejected a request from the transition team of the administration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, although the government stressed that Washington is its partner and they can work together.

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), the Nassau Guardian said, issued a statement after NBC News reported that the Bahamas was on a list of countries to which migrants who are not accepted by their countries of origin would be deported.

Along with the Bahamas were the Turks and Caicos Islands, Panama and Grenada, the newspaper said.

“This matter was brought to the Bahamian government, but was reviewed and firmly rejected by the Prime Minister,” the OPM said.
