The event aims to commemorate the 30 years of work of the Latin American Laboratory for the Evaluation of the Quality of Education.
Representatives from 19 nations in the region, plus Spain and Portugal, will hold panels, talks, and debates to review program contributions that allow the skills of primary school students to be measured and respond to the challenges of the UN 2030 Agenda. The meeting also aims at coordinating the international application in 2025 of the Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE), the oldest evaluation system in the region which assesses the learning achievements of students from third to sixth grades in subjects such as reading, mathematics, and science.
The findings have helped put key issues on national educational agendas, from teacher development to the prevention of school violence and climate change, UNESCO said.
Next year the system will be applied to more than 190,000 students from some five thousand schools and will also generate essential data for the development of more equitable and effective educational policies, especially after the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The international delegations will visit the Liceo San Nicolás, located in the Ñuble region, an establishment recognized for its innovative teaching and learning model and considered a benchmark in the central-southern area of Chile, said the UNESCO regional office.
