Cuong made the remarks during a ceremony to award the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces title to the Viettel Aerospace Institute (VTX) in recognition of its achievements in research and production of high-tech strategic weapons for the army and the country.
The president said this institution’s achievements are not only the pride of the nation but also contribute to putting into practice the long-standing aspiration of the Vietnamese people to have sufficient strength and self-reliance to protect independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and maintain eternal peace in the country.
He noted that the VTX’s positive results are also due to the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the State, the direct leadership of the Central Military Commission, the Defense Ministry, and the active and close coordination of departments and branches at the central and local levels.
In another part of his speech reported by local media, Cuong stressed the importance of improving the defense industrial infrastructure and continuing to invest in research, testing, and production complexes that meet international standards.
