In her usual press conference, the dignitary recalled the approach of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) that “it should not only be North America, but there should be an economic vision of the continent and that includes the Caribbean.”
I agree with that vision, said Sheinbaum, who recalled that her nation has relations and trade agreements with many countries in the world.
“Obviously, the most important is the North American trade agreement (with the United States and Canada), but this vision that as a power, the entire region has enormous development and potential, something that we will continue to insist on,” she said. We maintain, promote and defend “the trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), but also the vision of expanding to other countries,” she stressed.
The day before, the president reiterated in the border state of Tamaulipas there is no competition between the three nations of North America, but rather complementarity, which makes the area one of the most vigorous and important in the world, since it represents 30 percent of the world’s gross domestic product.
“Not only that. The proposal is that from now on we seek, with respect for our sovereignties, independence, cultures and democracies, the economic integration of the entire American continent to become even more the most vigorous region on the entire planet,” she confirmed.
