“They have already tried to kill the PT and have not succeeded. They cannot now ask the PT to commit suicide by breaking with the social foundation that has brought us this far,” Hoffmann affirmed in an interview with O Globo newspaper.
The congresswoman, who is in her last few months at the helm of the PT after seven years in office, reiterated that the party must remain faithful to its leftist principles.
She noted President Luiz Inacio Lula’s role in the 2026 elections, and rejected comparisons with the advanced age of other leaders, such as US President Joe Biden.
Regarding the succession in the PT leadership, the parliamentarian explained that there is no definite name yet but praised the importance of an internal political debate to qualify the future president.
