The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted in a brief statement that it closely monitors the situation in Syria in light of the unfolding events.

The Ministry underscored the need for all parties to work towards preserving Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Our Embassy in Damascus is in touch with the Indian community to ensure their safety, it said.

India joined Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, and Jordan, among others, in expressing concern for the safety of Syrian citizens and territorial integrity after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government.

Following the political event in Syria, Israel occupied Mount Hermon, considered the highest peak in Syria at 1814 meters above sea level, and a strip of territory that includes the buffer zone between the two nations.

According to Prensa Latina, Israeli fighter planes bombed several abandoned Syrian military positions and installations near Damascus and the country’s other provinces.
