The head of State toured areas in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur, one of the districts most damaged by the hurricane.
Upon confirming the recovery of the Acopio bridge, on the section of the central highway that leads to Imías, Maisí and Baracoa, and collapsed by flooding, the president acknowledged that “work was done in record time, quickly and well.”
According to the Presidency of the Republic, the dignitary stressed the importance of updating the plans to confront hurricanes and other natural disasters.
Díaz-Canel also visited the “4th PCC Congreso” teaching polyclinic, severely hit by Hurricane Oscar’s waters, where he was interested in the care of the workers who were affected, and met with the local population.
The president also visited the Elifáz Calmell Matos Public Library, where he stressed that “the recovery in San Antonio del Sur has been comprehensive.”
During a meeting with local residents, the president highlighted the spirit of the inhabitants, who did not let themselves be defeated.
“In the face of every adversity, we must put our hearts and minds to it,” he said, while assuring that this is possible “with the participation of everyone who strengthens our unity.” That has to be the spirit of combat, he asserted.
The president also visited the city of Guantanamo on Monday, as part of the work system of visiting municipalities to assess their socioeconomic development.
He toured the San Justo Peolple’s Council, a neighborhood in transformation where more than 24,300 inhabitants live, and problems such as water supply, landline telephones, and medical offices and warehouses have been resolved.
There, the president visited the headquarters of the community sociocultural project “Ranchón de Cobango,” located in the yard of Juan Orlando Delgado Lara, its coordinator and delegate of constituency 10, where social and cultural activities are promoted.
Díaz-Canel also met with the people of Guantanamo and toured producer Pedro Monier López’s farm, which belongs to the Municipal Agroindustrial Company.
