The official signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union in Minsk, the news agency stated.
Earlier, Putin, who is visiting this country, said he was confident that the treaty “will protect reliably Russia and Belarus’ security” and create conditions for the two states’ further peaceful and stable development.
The Russian president said the document “defines the alliance’s mutual commitments for both countries’ defense, sovereignty protection, independence, constitutional order.”
The meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union was held within the framework of the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty between the two nations.
