Event on information and communications concludes in Cuba

Havana, Dec 6 (Prensa Latima) The 11th International Meeting of Researchers and Scholars of Information and Communication (ICOM 2024) concluded on Friday its debates on the role of this field in terms of development agendas.

Attended by more than 300 national and international experts, ICOM became an enriching forum for reflective, multidisciplinary and critical analysis on the transversal mission of information, communication, technology and culture in the development and innovation purposes of humanity.

The agenda consisted of master lectures by Professors Tanius Karam Cárdenas (Mexico), César Bolaño (Brazil), Carlos Alberto Avila (Brazil), Francisco Sierra (Spain) and Washington Uranga (Argentina). In parallel to the conferences, there was an expo-fair consisting of academic, expository, cultural, social and networking sessions.

At the closing session, Brazilian expert Carlos Alberto Avila was awarded the special teaching category of guest professor at the University of Havana.

The courier agency Recadero; the cultural space of the Faculty of Communication, La Cafetera; and the Havana Electric Company were acknowledged for the creative proposals presented at the event.

During the closing session, the creation of the National Prize for Social Communication was announced, which will be awarded for the first time in 2025.

This distinction aims to acknowledge the work of journalism and social communication professionals in the country, according to what is established in the new Law on Social Communication.

According to the vice president of the Institute of Social Communication, Onelio Castillo, the awarding ceremony will take place on May 25, 2025, coinciding with the anniversary of the approval of the law.

The next edition of ICOM will take place from 23 to 26 November 2026, with the thematic lines “Information, communication and culture in the digital revolution: towards a humanistic, inclusive and regional perspective.”
