In March 2020, due to the situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the government instructed that Cuban citizens who are residing abroad could return to the country without having to renew their passport.
The general director of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cubans Residing Abroad, Ana Teresita González, explained in a press conference that this measure, of an exceptional and temporary nature, was taken to protect fellow nationals during the pandemic.
“Considering the time elapsed, the normalization of international flights and the operation of our consular offices abroad,” she explained that it has been decided to establish March 31, 2025, as the deadline for Cuban residents abroad to enter the country with an expired passport.
González assured that the consular offices are fully prepared and capable of providing this service, with the speed required so that Cubans traveling to home can do so with their passport valid as of April 1, 2025.
