Prime Minister Philip Davis said that if a request were made by the United States, his government would cooperate and arrest those charged with the crime.
The decision was made after a meeting with officials from the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas. “During that meeting, we raised the issue of the accused Bahamians who are in the country, and I told them that following an extradition request, we will cooperate with the arrest of those involved,” Davis assured.
The United States alleged that since May 2021, corrupt high-ranking members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and other state officials have been involved with Colombian and local drug traffickers to facilitate massive shipments of cocaine through the Caribbean nation’s air and sea ports.
