New issue of Cuba magazine launched in Moscow

Moscow, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) The first issue of the Cuba magazine, published by the Fidel Castro Foundation for the development of Russian-Cuban relations, was presented at the headquarters of the Latin American Institute in Moscow on Thursday, Prensa Latina confirmed.

In the presence of Cuban Ambassador to Russia Julio Garmendía, the director of the aforementioned fund, Leonid Savin, said that the new publication gathers moments of Cuba’s cultural, historic and social life, and comes at a time when it is necessary to spread more information about the events in a friendly country.

Savin stressed that the publication fills a gap in knowledge about the Cuban nation, which was well known in the Soviet era, but about which not all is known, especially among the new generations, not only in Russia, but in the entire post-Soviet space.

The historian recalled that Prensa Latina news agency also has a very good magazine entitled Cuba Internacional, where renowned journalists have worked, including late José Dos Santos, author of one of the materials in the publication that was launched on Thursday.

The Cuban ambassador congratulated all those who made the publication of the Cuba magazine possible and said that in fact there were many publications in the Soviet Union, almost all of them periodical, which conveyed a lot of information about Cuba.

Garmendía added that this magazine does not only deal with political issues, but also collects materials on culture, history, economy and many spheres of daily life.

The director of the Latin American Institute, Dmitri Rozental, said that the publication is very necessary for all those who deal with political and social issues in our time, something that is increasingly complex and difficult in a world that prefers promotions and advertisements.

Among those attending the launch of the Cuba magazine in the Russian capital were several of the authors of the articles that appear in this first issue, which contains a text on the distinguished Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier.
