Macron accepts Prime Minister Barnier’s resignation

Paris, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) French President Emmanuel Macron today accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who was ousted the day before by a vote of no confidence supported by the left and the far right.

The Presidency confirmed in a statement that the president accepted the resignation, after receiving the conservative politician for an hour at the Elysee.

Barnier and the rest of the cabinet members guarantee the treatment of current affairs until the appointment of a new government, the text reflects. Considered a fact on French soil for several days, the National Assembly yesterday adopted with the favorable vote of 331 deputies, the absolute majority is 289 in the hemicycle, the motion presented by the left.

The censure came in the context of discussions on the 2025 state budget, which has been rejected by both the New Popular Front and the far-right National Rally party.

The opposition’s anger increased even further on Monday, after Barnier activated article 49.3 of the Constitution to approve the Social Security budget without a parliamentary vote.

The criticism focused on a text with austerity measures to try to clean up public finances in the face of a colossal debt, a budget accused of seeking to save billions of euros at the expense of the most vulnerable French people and the middle class.
