The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement that in the last few hours Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke by telephone with his counterparts from Russia, Iran, the United States, and Syria.
Abdelatty spoke with his Syrian counterpart, Bassam Sabbagh, with whom he analyzed strategies to strengthen Arab support for Syria in the face of the escalation of the conflict. During the exchange, the official ratified Egypt’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Abdelatty also exchanged opinions on the same subject with the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov. Both ministers agreed on the importance of maintaining continuous and effective coordination. They also expressed deep concern about the significant escalation of the conflict in Syria and stressed the need to prevent terrorism from spreading and destabilizing the region.
Shortly after, the Egyptian minister spoke with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the same issue and the need to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli fire for 14 months.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s position on support for Syria’s national institutions and the protection of civilians. He also explained to Blinken the need to intensify regional and international efforts to stop Israel’s war campaign in the Strip, where more than 44,000 deaths have been reported since October 2023.
