Young Russian women pay tribute to Fidel Castro

Santiago de Cuba, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) Elizaveta Golovakha, Elena Fedisheva and Aleksandra Andreeshcheva, members of the Pushkin Institute in Moscow, Russia, paid tribute to Fidel Castro (1926-2016) on Wednesday, during the commemoration of the eighth anniversary of the leader's burial in this city.

Professor Elizaveta Golovakha told Prensa Latina that she is in Santiago de Cuba, accompanied by volunteer students Elena and Aleksandra, to teach the Russian language at the University of Oriente, and they participated in the pilgrimage in tribute to Fidel because for them it is a cultural exchange between Russia and Cuba.

She explained that it is an honor for them to take part in the tribute and they wanted to see how Cubans show their respect for Fidel Castro, because it is a way to learn more about Cuban culture and communicating with people in a more intimate way.

The students showed their knowledge of Fidel and Cuba’s history by speaking about the importance of Santiago de Cuba in the beginning and triumph of the last stage of the revolutionary struggle.

They commented that the statesman’s ashes traveled all over the country before arriving in Santiago, as it was the leader’s wish to be buried near National Hero José Martí and that for that reason he rests here.
