Speaking to the press from the Antímano Parish, in Caracas, the parliamentarian announced the electoral schedule for these unique elections, which have been described as an “unprecedented election,” protected by article 68 of the national Constitution.
A total 52,288 men and women have applied for the position in the five thousand 297 communal circuits scattered throughout the national territory, among who over 30,000 peace judges will be elected by direct and secret vote on December 15, with little over 15,000 of them elected as principals and half of them as substitutes.
The ballots will be cast at 4,861 voting centers, of which 481 will correspond to indigenous communities, which have their own forms of election and application of justice, said Rodriguez.
The Venezuelan deputy explained that tomorrow candidates will begin to interact with the communities of each circuit followed by display of posters on Friday and house to house visits on Saturday and Sunday, seeking closer contacts with constituents.
The next week will witness the organization of the electoral commissions in the communal councils, as a previous step to choosing directors and other members of polling stations. On December 13 the campaign will wrap up and on the 14th all voting centers will open.
All Venezuelans over the age of 15 will have the right to vote, by producing their identity card.
Rodríguez said these judges amount to a powerful tool to guarantee peace in Venezuela.
