Rodriguez publicized on social network X the contents of his recent phone talk with Syrian counterpart Bassam Sabbagh, whom he briefed on the Cuban government’s position regarding Syria.
“I spoke by phone with Bassam Sabbagh, Foreign Minister of Syria,” he said, adding that “I reiterated Cuba’s support and solidarity with the Syrian people and government, in the face of attacks by terrorist groups against several cities in the country,” the text adds.
Rodríguez emphasized the need to “preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of that sister nation.”
The Hayat Tahrir al Sham organization, together with armed opposition groups, began an offensive against the Syrian Army in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib on November 27. Three days later, the radicals took control of Aleppo, something that had not happened since March 2011, when Syria began to experience a conflict in which government forces faced opposition and terrorists.
So far, the conflict has not been resolved, either under the United Nations-sponsored efforts, or through joint mediation by Russia, Turkey and Iran.
