“We are witnesses to the brave battle waged by its people to overcome the adversities and suffering caused by a criminal blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years,” the foreign minister said at a reception at the residence of Cuban Ambassador Elba Rosa Pérez.
Sosa recalled that the Plurinational State condemns “the unjust actions against the Caribbean island and its people, as well as the inclusion of Cuba’s name on a unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
In the presence of representatives of the diplomatic corps, the head of Ecuadorian diplomacy described this inclusion as incoherent and unjust.
“How can you call a country that sends its army of white coats to the world to save lives, while others drop bombs to destroy, a terrorist country?” she emphasized.
She considered that Cuba is always an example and a source of inspiration for the world, the continent and in particular for Bolivia.
“To speak of Cuba in these times is to evoke an example of human dignity and to keep alive the hope of building a better world,” she added.
Sosa noted that Cuba and its people are a forum of freedom and resistance, and an inspiration to continue to fight.
She recalled that Bolivians benefited from the programs of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) with initiatives such as Operation Miracle of surgical interventions to save the sight of thousands of people. She also recalled the program “Yes, I Can,” which made it possible to eradicate illiteracy, especially among rural and indigenous women, and the so-called Moto Méndez Mission, which identified thousands of cases of people with some type of disability.
Sosa confirmed that all these actions reflect the true spirit of solidarity, which consists of sharing the best that one has and not what is left over.
“On behalf of President Luis Arce and the Bolivian people, we want to welcome Cuban Ambassador Elba Rosa Pérez, and we feel the privilege of having a revolutionary sister, committed to her country, with a great deal of experience,” Sosa concluded.
The Cuban ambassador, in turn, thanked the Ecuadorian foreign minister for her words on behalf of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and the Cuban people.
She noted that “(…) a group of Bolivians will take a postgraduate course in Cuba for their self-preparation and improvement, we highly appreciate it.”
