Venezuela rejected statements made by ICC prosecutor

Caracas, Dec 3 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela rejected today the statements of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Ahmad Khan on the national situation, made during the 23rd session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute.

The Venezuelan authorities informed the ICC Office of the Prosecutor in a timely and comprehensive manner about the measures adopted in the internal order to advance in the fulfillment of the commitments assumed with the Rome Statute, as well as those reached in the two memorandums of understanding subscribed.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered it worrisome that “the Prosecutor has not been informed of these advances and the exact status of the issues addressed in his ill-advised statements”.

This includes the reactivation of the presence of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Venezuelan territory, which took place in November this year, it indicated.

He also deeply regretted that Khan “allows himself to be carried away by information of public campaigns in social networks promoted by the extreme right, Zionism and Western powers that intend to apply legal colonialism against Venezuela”.

All this, he indicated, in spite of having direct communication channels with the national justice bodies, in a country where the rule of law is independently respected.
