Mexico to host 9th Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba

Mexico, Dec 3 (Prensa Latina) The 9th Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will take place in Mexico from October 9 to 12, 2025, to discuss the defense of the Caribbean island's causes, members of the organizing committee informed.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Aline Pérez, from the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, noted that among the main objectives of the event, to be held in this capital, is the strengthening of regional integration and support for the Cuban Revolution.

She emphasized the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, as well as the demand to exclude the Caribbean island from Washington’s unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

She stressed the importance of supporting the work of Cuban medical brigades and expressed gratitude for the presence of these healthcare professionals who help and save lives even in remote areas of Mexico, where local specialists have not gone.

Israel Bretón, also a member of the Movement and the organizing committee, told Prensa Latina that another relevant element will be how to take actions at a continental level to benefit Cuba directly, in the face of the ongoing US blockade.

He mentioned the importance of defending Cuba’s right to self-determination.

Speaking online at a press conference held at the Cuban Embassy here to convene the meeting, the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, underscored the efforts by the various US administrations to destroy the Cuban Revolution.

“We must propose that the Meeting be a real contribution to confront the current counterrevolutionary offensive by US imperialism in the search for the broadest possible unity of the leftwing forces in the region, strengthening militant solidarity with Cuba and for the just causes that our people defend,” he noted.

He called for seeking new ways to articulate and globalize solidarity, tempered to the current scenarios in the geographic area and the world.

González stressed that the meeting in Mexico will close an important cycle of continental events during the 2024-2025 period, events of great importance, as they are collective forums of articulation to strengthen the solidarity work for Cuba in the face of US hostility.

We will work on the coordination of strategies in defense of the Cuban Revolution that compel us to the necessary strengthening, from our spaces, of a common front to strengthen resistance and Latin American and Caribbean unity in support of the proclamation of the region as a zone of peace, González added.

The ICAP president expressed his gratitude to the Latin American and Caribbean Solidarity Movement for the support received in the face of the recent energy contingency, as well as the damage caused by Hurricanes Oscar and Rafael and the earthquakes that shook eastern Granma and Santiago de Cuba provinces.

The political advisor of the Cuban Embassy in Mexico, José Maury, told Prensa Latina that at this time, the media war against Cuba is also aimed at demobilizing friends.

We think that the 9th Meeting first of all strengthens Cuba’s cause and contributes to the incorporation of new friends, said Maury, adding that another objective is to strengthen the organization of solidarity with his country and articulate support movements.
