According to Hatemedia, a project led by researchers from the International University of La Rioja (UNIR), in northern Spain, more than half of nearly ten million messages analyzed are associated with any kind of hate of varying intensity.
The leading conclusion of the detailed analysis pointed out that around 70 percent of the hate messages published on websites and social media in general attack politicians, women, immigrants, and LGTBI+ communities, all in Spain.
Along with UNIR, other universities are collaborating in the program, which points to the hidden intention of these texts to promote a media hostility climate, causing anger, resentment, and opposition towards a certain person or group.
The experts created the “Hate Monitor” tool to detect the presence, kind, and intensity of hate messages on social media.
