Prosecutor Ricardo Perciballe has asked criminal judge Emilio Baccelli to sentence José Ricardo Arab to 30 years in prison, Jorge Silveira to 22 years and Ricardo Medina to 10 years and six months.
Perciballe described the crimes the three have been charged for as part of a systematic plan of political repression orchestrated by the Uruguayan regime, in coordination with Operation Condor in Argentina.
“There is no doubt that the core of the events resides on the fact that this was the largest assassination plan ever to be committed in our country,” he said.
The prosecutor for Crimes Against Humanity referred to the murders of legislators Zelmar Michelini and Héctor Gutiérrez, committed by the de facto government in 1976.
He explained that Arab, Silveira and Medina were co-authors of crimes that include aggravated homicide, forced disappearance, abduction of minors and abuse of authority.
The hearing will continue on Friday, when the arguments of the defendants’ defense will be presented.
