“Given how unstable and precarious the context in the United States seems, we will not accept half measures or uncertain conditions as an object of negotiation on Ukraine, and we will not negotiate on a temporary freeze of the conflict,” Matvienko stressed in an interview with the Argumenti i Fakti newspaper.
The official assumed that in 2025 there are “much more chances of a real attempt to start negotiations and meetings taking place,” although she acknowledged that a serious escalation caused by the outgoing US administration will have repercussions on any eventual negotiation.
“That is precisely why they are rushing to force an escalation. They are pinning high hopes that the situation will either spiral out of control and make negotiations impossible as a result of their provocative actions, or that the parties will be forced to start the dialogue from negative values,” Matvienko said.
