Official sources confirmed that the presidents of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, members of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), plus invited representatives from Bolivia and Panama, will meet on November 5 and 6 in Montevideo, the Uruguayan capital.

Held on July 8, the last forum of the bloc was held without the presence of Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, who has now confirmed his presence.

The concern of Brazilian diplomacy is an eventual alliance of Milei with the elected U.S. president, Republican Donald Trump, which could bring negative results for Mercosur.

On the other hand, the coming to power of the leftist politician Yamandú Orsi in Uruguay and the economic interests in common with Brazil and Paraguay may isolate the Argentinean from next year.

After a talk with Lula in Brasilia last week, Orsi told the press that the state of negotiations with the EU will be analyzed at the Montevideo meeting.

“We are optimistic, as Mercosur and as a region, we are optimistic about the possibility of continuing to strengthen ties with other regions, fundamentally with Europe”, the visitor reiterated.
