The meeting, ending on December 13, will serve as a forum to urge attendees to mobilize financial and technical resources to implement priority measures, particularly in the most vulnerable countries.
A program to reforest timber and fruit trees in Haiti was launched in 2021 as part of the efforts to address desertification.
There are five forest germplasm centers for this purpose, one of them promoted by the assassinated President Juvenel Moïse, located in the territory of Gran Pré in the northwest.
The site houses 23 varieties of plants: “apricot, Venezuelan mahogany, bread tree, royal tree, avocado, cacao, chirimoya, coffee, acacias, cedar, cherry, pomelo, lemon, soursop, ash, guava, olive, mahogany nut, sweet orange, saman, tamarind, oak, and Delonix regia.”
This makes a total of 70% fruit trees and 30% timber.
