US Republicans prepare 100-day agenda

Washington, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) Republicans are planning an ambitious agenda for the first 100 days with President Donald Trump in the White House and his party with a majority in both chambers of the US Congress.

The conditions would be created in Washington to achieve their political objectives, according to analysts.

A tax cut for millionaires and almost everyone else; the end of Covid-19-era government subsidies that some Americans have used to buy health insurance; limits on food stamps, including those for women and children, and other social protection programs would be in the crosshairs.

They also plan to reduce the green energy programs of the Joe Biden administration; mass deportations and the cutting of government jobs to -as Trump said- “drain the swamp.”

“What we’re focused on now is being ready on day one,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said, as quoted by ABC News.

The United States faces a federal deficit increase of close to $2 trillion a year.

The discussions will test whether Trump and his Republican allies can achieve the kinds of real results desired, needed or supported when voters gave the party control of Congress and the White House, the media outlet added.

Trump’s first term (2017-2021) was defined by those tax cuts, which were approved by Republicans in Congress and signed into law.

Since Trump signed those cuts, the biggest benefits went to the highest-income households, meaning the richest one percent (those earning nearly $1 million or more) received a tax cut of around $60,000.

But those with lower incomes received only a few hundred dollars, the Tax Policy Center and other advocacy groups warned.

In fact, as experts say, “the big economic story in the United States is rising income inequality.”
